Colorado comes under the Region VIII jurisdiction of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The regional office of this jurisdiction is located in Denver, which is also the place where one of the four HUD Homeownership Centers is located. The Department offers a number of homeownership and rental assistance programs separately for different counties and cities in Colorado, which are monitored by local housing authorities and Public Housing Agencies.

HUD Rental Assistance Programs in Colorado
Talking about the rental assistance, there are chiefly two kinds of assistance available.

These are subsidized apartments and Housing Choice Vouchers. You can search for a subsidized apartment at the website of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. When you find the one that interests you, visit the management office of that apartment building and complete the application process.
To apply for either public housing or housing choice vouchers (also called Section 8), contact a local public housing agency (PHA). You can find a listing of PHAs in Colorado at HUD website. You can also call (800) 955-2232 to get answer to any question you might have regarding these programs. Moreover, if you need advice you can contact a housing counseling agency that has been approved by HUD.
